Washington, July 7, 2025 – In a bold political move, tech billionaire Elon Musk has officially registered the America Party with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), and appointed Tesla’s Chief Financial Officer Vaibhav Taneja as the party’s treasurer and custodian of records. The news surfaced after documents filed with the FEC began circulating online, revealing Taneja’s key role in the new political outfit.
The America Party, launched to challenge what Musk describes as a “one-party system,” is Musk’s latest jab at the current U.S. political establishment, particularly former ally Donald Trump. Musk has openly criticized Trump’s “big, beautiful” tax and spending bill, which led to a very public falling out between the two high-profile figures.
Taneja’s appointment underscores Musk’s trust in the Indian-origin executive, who joined Tesla in 2017 and quickly rose through the ranks. He became Tesla’s CFO in August 2023 and recently made headlines for earning a staggering $139 million in 2024, surpassing many other tech CEOs in compensation.
Musk announced the formation of the America Party on his platform X (formerly Twitter), stating:
“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
He added, “By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party—and you shall have it!”
With Taneja at the financial helm, the America Party signals Musk’s intent to play a disruptive role in the 2026 midterm elections and beyond.
