Washington, July 7, 2025 – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has strongly criticized Elon Musk’s newly launched America Party, calling it “ridiculous” and a potential threat to Republican unity ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One in Morristown, New Jersey, Trump said:
“I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party. We have a tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it’s always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion.”
Trump’s remarks mark an escalation in his ongoing feud with Musk, who recently registered the America Party with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and named Tesla CFO Vaibhav Taneja as its treasurer. Musk, once a close ally and head of Trump’s “Department of Government Efficiency,” has become an outspoken critic of the former president’s economic policies, particularly his high-spending tax plan.
Trump also described Musk’s recent political actions as a “train wreck” and accused him of endangering conservative momentum with what he sees as a disruptive third-party experiment.
With the GOP gearing up for crucial electoral battles and Musk rallying support for political reform, the clash between the two billionaires signals growing fractures within the conservative base—and raises the stakes for the upcoming election cycle.
