Mumbai, July 7, 2025:
Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai revisited his alma mater, Chikitsak Samuh Shirodkar School in Mumbai, on Sunday and emphasized the importance of mother-tongue education in shaping a child’s intellect and values. Gavai, who completed his primary and secondary education at the Marathi-medium institution, credited his foundational years at the school for his personal and professional growth.

During his nostalgic visit, the Chief Justice toured classrooms, the library, and the art section of the school, while also reconnecting warmly with his former classmates and teachers. In an official statement, he expressed deep gratitude to the educators who played a pivotal role in his early development.

“Whatever position I have reached today, my teachers and this school have played a significant role in it,” Gavai said. “The education and values I received here gave direction to my life. My journey in public speaking began on this very stage. Through speech competitions and cultural programs, I gained confidence. It is because of those opportunities that I am what I am today.”

Gavai stressed that studying in one’s mother tongue fosters conceptual clarity and a deeper connection to cultural values, adding that such education systems play a key role in building a strong, values-driven society.

The visit marked a heartfelt moment of return for India’s top judge, who continues to inspire students with his story of academic roots and values-based learning.
